Yes, but it must be processed using specialized mud purification equipment before it can be reused.
In-well circulation: During drilling, mud is pumped to the bottom of the well and subsequently carries drill cuttings back to the surface. At the surface, the mud passes through solids control equipment such as shale shakers, desanders, desilters, and centrifuges. After the cuttings are separated, the purified mud is pumped back into the well for continued circulation rather than being discharged indiscriminately.

As drilling depth increases, the mud may become contaminated with formation impurities or undergo changes in its properties. Technicians periodically add chemical treatment agents to the circulating mud (to adjust viscosity, specific gravity, or pH levels) to restore its specifications.

Disposal of waste mud
Through “closed-loop” (or “zero-discharge”) technologies such as flocculation and pressure filtration, the water content in waste mud can be fully recovered for use in preparing new drilling fluid; the separated solid residues can also be utilized as resources after undergoing harmless treatment.
