The glass industry is the largest application field of quartz except for construction sand. About 60 million tons of quartz raw materials are used in glass every year. In the composition of ordinary silicate glass, SiO₂ generally accounts for about 65% to 75%.

The particles shall not exceed 5%. Special glass, ultra-white glass, precision optical glass, etc. have stricter requirements on the chemical composition of quartz raw materials.
